Finding the Will of God and Making godly Decisions

Is Christianity an Excuse for Christian Singles to Be Passive?

Finding the Will
of God and Making godly Decisions

When you need to make important decisions, or navigate life’s storms and rough roads, does your internal compass automatically point you toward God’s Word and God’s unfailing love for you, a precious child of the light? Or do you sometimes find your internal compass pointing toward: the World, Emotions/the flesh, and Satan/the devil? Do not turn to the West, the East or the South. Keep going straight toward the truth, peace and wisdom from Gods word.

READ THE RIGHT ROAD MAP

The great thing about finding God’s will for our lives and making godly decisions is the fact that God has given us Christians a road map to find His perfect will. God does not expect us to read His mind. God does expect us to read His Holy Word, the Bible. In fact, there are two books that every Christian should own and use daily, especially when faced with a big decision or a problem. The first is the Bible of course, and the second is an unabridged concordance like the ones listed on our Christian Books page. Our favorite is The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance Of The Bible: Classic Edition. Verse by verse God will help you map out your journey through life’s tough problems and decisions.

THANK GOD FOR ROADBLOCKS

“… for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” James 1:20 (NIV version)

When God puts a roadblock in your way, do you thank Him for it? Do you gladly say, “…not my will be done, but your will be done, my loving God, because you know what is best for me,” and mean it? Or do you get angry and beat your faithful donkey like Balaam did in chapter 22 of the book of Numbers. (Please take a moment to read Numbers 22:18-35) Now obviously God would not likely send you a talking donkey to steer you away from danger like He did for the prophet, Balaam. But some of us have faithful friends and family members who are just like Balaam’s talking donkey. With stubborn-love our friends and family members try to steer us clear of danger. Do we give them a tongue-lashing like Balaam beat his donkey, or do we thank God for giving us loving friends and family?

You can only serve one master.

STAY ON THE FREEDOM TRAIN

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” 1st John 2:15

When you decide to use the things of this world, do not be a slave to them. God wants to bless us with all the things we need not necessarily all the things we want. Or all the things the world wants us to want. The world wants us to beg, barrow and sometimes even steal time and money from other important areas of our lives to get all the things it wants us to want. Advertising, peer pressure and envy are of the world. Which is the opposite direction from peace and contentment and trust in God. Also take a look at Hebrews 13:5 and 1st Timothy 6:6-10.

PRAYER PAVES THE PATH TO PEACE

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the Peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Emotions and the flesh can be far less effective in making good decisions than prayer and a careful study of the scriptures! Does your decision result in inner peace and also promote external peace with others? Or does it result in inner torment and outer turmoil and strife? One of the longest segments in the path to peace is humility, meekness and the ability to look out for the well being of others and not just our own benefit. “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9

SIN IS A STOP SIGN

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of suffering” 1 Peter 5:8-9

Do you know of anyone who is absolutely delighted when we sin and hit a stop sign in our fellowship with God? Satan/the devil just cannot wait to see us fall. Things can be going along great with you and God, but sin is a stop sign. The way to get going again is found in 1st John 1:9, confess your sins and fellowship is restored. Guilt always gets in the way of making godly decisions.

FOLLOW THE LEADER

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22 (NIV version)

God’s road map, the Bible, is very clear and all we have to do is follow it. The more we follow God the more we get in the habit of making godly decisions.

STAY ON THE ROAD TO GOD’S GLORY

Simply make it your life-long goal to make every decision one that pleases God and gives Him glory. You will be rewarded not always with peace and prosperity on earth, but your reward will be in heaven for those tough decisions to follow God and not the World, Emotions/the flesh, or Satan/the devil. “So whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” James 1:20 (NIV version)
